Reduction mammoplasty, or female breast reduction, is a procedure to reduce the size and volume of the breasts. During the procedure, excess fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed to achieve a breast size that complements your body shape.
Breast size is determined by heredity, hormones and body weight or frame. For most women, breast size is proportionate to the body, but women with very large breasts often suffer from chronic pain to the head, neck, shoulders and back. Oversized breasts can be an annoyance that causes skin chafing on the chest or clothing doesn’t fit properly, but they can also cause secondary health problems, such as poor blood circulation and labored breathing.
